Cubbon Park is a free 300-acre public park in central Bengaluru, open 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily except Mondays and the second Tuesday of each month. It suits families with children of any age. The most useful thing to know before you go: the park's internal roads close to vehicles from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM every morning, and that two-hour window is when the park is calmest and safest for small children walking or cycling. There is no entry fee. What to do here. The main draw is simply walking — around 6 km of shaded paths run under rain trees, gulmohars and a well-known bamboo grove. Families with younger children usually head for the Bal Bhavan area, which has a small toy train, a boating pond and open lawns suitable for a picnic. Older children tend to prefer the Bangalore Aquarium near the Kasturba Road entrance, and the state museum and Venkatappa Art Gallery sit inside the park grounds. Birdwatchers regularly record parakeets, coppersmith barbets and kingfishers here, best seen before 8 AM. Getting there. Cubbon Park metro station on the Purple Line opens directly onto the park's western edge, which is the easiest arrival for families avoiding traffic. Street parking along Kasturba Road and Queens Road fills quickly on weekends. Practical notes. Washrooms are available near the Bal Bhavan and aquarium entrances but are basic; bring your own supplies. There are no restaurants inside the park itself, though several cafes sit within a short walk on Kasturba Road, so most families pack a picnic. Paved main paths are wheelchair and stroller friendly, while the interior mud trails are not. Shade is plentiful, but Bengaluru's afternoon sun is still strong between March and May — mornings are the better visit in those months.
